First blog post!

Hello and welcome to the first proper post. Website and instagram set up by my daughter yesterday. Arrived back in Alhaurin el Grande (home town) last night with a load of shopping from Lidl at 7.30 but I´d forgotten that the town was in the midst of the Day of the Cross celebrations and the policia local had blocked off all the streets around my house. After a hairy drive through the tiny streets, I managed to park about 3K from my house! So I had to stuff as much of the perishables in my rucksack and hot foot it home. I was absolutely knackered but at least the sunset was amazing.

Today I realised that it is only 27 days before I set off on the camino!! So much training and planning to do! I went and reclaimed my car and the streets are decorated so beautifully with all the chairs ready for the processions. The Day of the Cross is in honour of a great battle that was won by the roman general Constantine against a much greater barbarian army on the banks of the Danube. The night before the battle, Constantine had a vision of a cross with the words ¨with this sign you will be victorious¨ He had a cross made and put it in front of his army. He won a famous victory and was converted baptised as a christian.
